Muddiest Point: Week 3

I'm wondering what the major differences are between true Unix systems (BSD, Sun OS) and operating systems deemed "unix-like", (Darwin, Linux, etc.)?

  1. Major differences? I'd say Unix is like a platform for the others, more like a foundation for what Linux and other Unix-like systems can be built on. Also: In Unix, the kernel interacts directly with the hardware. Unix (the whole system, not the kernel) is built for humongous computers;Unix-based systems like Linux are more for everyday computer use (modern laptops and computers).
